Update profile and family information
Congregants can update their own contact information, household members, lifecycle details, and preferences without calling or emailing the office. Changes are reflected in the admin system in real time.
A congregant-facing member portal gives synagogue members a private place to manage their relationship with the shul — update family information, view dues and donation history, pay online, and access receipts. For office staff, a well-designed portal reduces the volume of repetitive inquiries that interrupt administrative work. This guide explains what a member portal does and what to look for when evaluating one.
Congregants can update their own contact information, household members, lifecycle details, and preferences without calling or emailing the office. Changes are reflected in the admin system in real time.
Members can see their outstanding balance, dues payment history, donation records, and any charges linked to their household. No more requests for "what do I owe?" — the answer is in the portal.
Members can pay dues, settle outstanding balances, and make one-time or recurring donations directly from the portal by card or ACH bank transfer. Payments process through Stripe and settle to the synagogue's bank account.
Annual giving statements and individual payment receipts are available for download at any time. This alone eliminates a significant volume of office inquiries, particularly in January and February when members prepare tax returns.
On portals with aliyah request functionality, members can submit requests for aliyot directly from their portal, which routes to a gabbai-managed queue in the admin interface.
Live zmanim, service schedules, and the synagogue calendar are accessible in the portal, giving members a single reference point for shul timing and upcoming events.
The majority of office phone calls and emails in a typical synagogue office are about three things: account balances, receipt requests, and contact updates. A member portal with self-service access to all three removes that workload from staff without removing service from members.
When congregants can update their own profiles, the member database stays accurate without requiring an annual data collection campaign. Address changes, new family members, and email updates happen as they occur.
Members who can pay online pay faster. Providing a direct payment link in a dues notice — pointing to the member portal — significantly increases the percentage of households that pay within the stated window.
Every GabbaiPro tenant launches at yourshul.gabbaipro.com by default. No DNS configuration required. The portal is live within minutes of account setup.
Shuls that want a portal at portal.yourshul.org or members.yourshul.com can add a custom domain. This requires one DNS record from the synagogue and SSL is managed automatically. Available as an add-on on Starter and Growth, included on Pro.
Every GabbaiPro plan includes a hosted member portal with profile self-service, billing history, online payments, receipt downloads, aliyah request submission, and zmanim display. The portal launches at a hosted subdomain on signup and supports a custom domain as an optional add-on.
